The Swiss Alps
The Swiss Alps cover 62.5 percent of Switzerland, from the central to the southeastern regions. Nearly half of the country’s area is over 1,200 meters high. Many of the peaks are more than 4,000 meters above sea level. At 4,478 meters, the Matterhorn is possibly the most well-known mountain in the Swiss Alps. But the highest peak in Switzerland is the 4,634-meter Dufourspitze, a summit of the Monte Rosa massif. Alpine tourism accounts for 60 percent of the country’s tourism sector resources.
